YONDR Phone Pouches

Phone-Free School Day (Years 8 to 11)

Supporting Learning, Wellbeing and Positive Relationships

At Loreto Grammar School, we are committed to creating an environment where every student feels safe, supported and able to thrive. Following consultation with students, parents/carers and staff during the 2025 to 2026 academic year, we have introduced a phone-free school day for students in Years 8 to 11 through the use of Yondr pouches.

Our aim is to reduce distractions, support wellbeing, strengthen face to face interactions and maximise engagement in learning throughout the school day.

How the Yondr System Works

Each student in Years 8 to 11 is issued with a secure Yondr pouch free of charge.

Each morning:

  • Students switch off their phone.
  • The phone is placed inside the pouch and locked under staff supervision.

During the school day:

  • Students keep the locked pouch with them.
  • Phones remain inaccessible unless authorised by the school for educational or specific approved reasons.

At the end of the day:

  • Students unlock their pouch at a designated unlocking station before leaving school.
  • The pouch is then taken home for use the following day.

Communication During the School Day

If a parent/carer needs to contact their daughter during the school day, they should do so through the School Office. Likewise, if a student needs to contact home, staff will assist and communication can be facilitated through the School Office.

Medical Needs

Individual arrangements will be made for students who require access to a mobile device for a specific medical need.

Important Information

  • Bringing a mobile phone to school is not compulsory.
  • Students who do not bring a phone should provide confirmation from a parent/carer.
  • Students are expected to bring their Yondr pouch to school every day.
  • Lost, damaged or unreturned pouches will incur a replacement charge of £20.
  • The school accepts no responsibility for the loss, theft or damage of personal devices.

Why a Phone-Free School Day?

We want our students to benefit from:

  • Greater focus and engagement in learning
  • Improved wellbeing through fewer distractions
  • Stronger face to face relationships
  • Reduced online risks during the school day

At Loreto Grammar School, we believe young people benefit from opportunities to learn, connect and grow without the constant distractions of mobile technology. We look forward to working in partnership with parents and students as we continue to foster a positive, focused and supportive learning environment.
