GCSE – Nutrition & Food Science

 

Introduction

This course provides students with the opportunity to learn about the nutritional content of foods and how to meet the specific nutritional and dietary needs of different groups of people. They also study how to be an effective consumer in relation to food choice, food safety and managing resources.

This specification encourages students to adopt a critical and an analytical approach to decision-making and problem-solving in relation to Home Economics. It also encourages them to develop as effective and independent learners.

Course Content

GCSE Home Economics: Food & Nutrition is broken into two units

Unit 1-Food & Nutrition (50%)

Unit 2- Controlled Assessment: Practical Food & Nutrition (50%)

Method of Assessment

The scheme of assessment is a combination of ONE written external examination paper which accounts for 50% and ONE internally assessed component which accounts for 50%.
