GCSE – Physical Education

Introduction

GCSE Physical Education gives opportunities to develop and apply their knowledge, skills and understanding of physical education through selected activity. The course aims to promote the value of physical activity as part of healthy living and to improve student’s awareness of the factors that affect participation and performance.

 

 

3.1 Component 1: Factors Underpinning Health and Performance

This component is organised into the following three sections:

3.1.1 The Body at Work;

3.1.2 Health and Lifestyle Decisions; and

3.1.3 The Active Leisure Industry.

External written examination – 25%

Students answer short response questions and questions that require extended writing.

3.2 Component 2: Developing Performance

This component is organised into the following two sections:

3.2.1 Developing Physical Fitness for Performance; and

3.2.2 Developing Skilled Performance.

3.3 Component 3: Individual Performances in Physical

Activities and Sports

This component is worth 50 % of the total marks.

In this component, students are provided with many opportunities to work individually and with others to learn and master skills and to develop desirable personal qualities, attitudes and behaviours. They participate, compete and develop performance in their physical activities and/or sports.

In this component, students are assessed on:

(a) the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of performances in physical activities and sports;

Students perform three physical activities and/or sports from the list CEA supply.

For one physical activity or sport, the assessment may be based on the consistent quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the student’s performance as an event manager.

3× 50 = 150 marks

(a) the quality of analysis and evaluation of performances.

Students are assessed on the consistent quality of their analysis and

evaluation of their own and others’ performances.
