Home Economics seeks to develop in Loreto students a sense of personal responsibility for their own life, to provide them with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills to make informed decisions for the world beyond school and to allow them to see the relevance of health education in their daily lives and in the lives of others. It is an excellent preparation for various careers such as Food science, Food production, Consumer Studies, Teaching, Health education, Dietician, Retail & Marketing, Consumer advice, Personnel Management, Health care & for life in general!

Key Stage 3

All pupils in Years 8, 9 and 10 are timetabled for one Double class (70mins) of Home Economics per week. The Revised curriculum enables pupils to explore three key concepts:

Healthy Eating This provides pupils with the opportunity to develop understanding required in the choice, planning, storage, preparation, cooking and serving food.
Home and Family Life This section provides opportunities to understand the importance of the family as a caring unit.
Independent Living Provides students with the opportunities to understand the importance of becoming discerning consumers and effective managers of resources.
