"Change for Cancer" Campaign.
Year 10 pupils, along with  their Pastoral Monitors from Year 14, led a campaign in October, during which they collected loose change for Cancer. They raised £604.50 in total and this was presented by Aideen Daly, Senior Prefect, to Mrs Margaret Wilkinson from the Ulster Cancer Foundation.

 

Public Speaking

Congratulations to Rona Anderson who came 1st place in The Omagh Lions Club Public Speaking Competition.  Rona now proceeds to the regional finals, in Antrim, in December.  Well done to Laura Smithson, as runner up.

 

Year 13 Romania Group

Many thanks to all the teachers who took part in the recent Teacher Dodge Ball match.  Congratulations to the winning team Team Hughes!  Thanks to all the students who turned out to support their teachers.  The event raised £130 for the Romania Fund.

 

Good News!

The school has been awarded the International Schools Award for the Years 2008-2011.

Mrs O’Hanlon travelled to London on Oct 8th to receive the award on behalf of all the school community.  Read more!

400 Year Anniversary

Loreto Schools across Ireland will celebrate 400 years of existence in Ireland 1609-2009.

Our school will meet with all the other schools in a special celebration Mass in Mullingar on 24th January 2009.

 

Exam Success

Mary Carmel Kearney achieved the highest mark in CCEA GCE A’Level Geography.

Mary Carmel will attend a CCEA Prizegiving Ceremony in December.

In recognition of this outstanding achievement, the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) has awarded Mary Carmel its prize for Excellence in Geography.

Congratulations and Best Wishes Mary Carmel.

 

Other News

The refurbishment of the James Street Foyer, offices and the ground floor corridor is now complete. The bright modern area is a welcome improvement in our school environment and will also contribute significantly to the Health and Safety of our pupils.

 

Blue Peter

We are all delighted for Elena Byrne 8a4 who was awarded a Gold ‘Blue Peter’ Badge. Elena met Jacqueline Wilson, author and The Queen and details of her day were televised on the ‘Blue Peter’ programme. Elena is an inspiration to everyone and, hopefully in our school magazine, you will hear more about this special event in Elena’s life.

 

Keep Baby Katie Awake appeal raised £1000 for the fund to send little baby Katie to USA for medical treatment.

 

School Educational Visits are in preparation to Paris for Years 13 and 14 in February 2009 with the Business Studies Department and to Prague in March with the Music Department.
