Loreto Grammar School

Welcome to Loreto Grammar School Omagh

Our school has a long and rich tradition of excellence based on the Loreto ethos and philosophy of education. As an 11-18 school we enjoy the mix of young and more adult students. We support each other in learning and discovery and the positive influence creates a friendly, caring and disciplined community which has its fair share of drama, intrigue, suspense and fun. We celebrate as well as study and given that the school has 890 talented students there are plenty of opportunities. We always seek to broaden our experiences of education within a local and global context and encourage each other to be active participants in a wide range of extra curricular activities. We are committed to nurturing the unique talents, gifts and abilities of everyone within our lived Catholic faith community, and to empowering each other to share responsibilities in home, parish life, and the world of work.

I hope you enjoy browsing through our material and catching a glimpse of life within this wonderful school.

 World Book Day Celebrations

In our aim to further pupils’ interest in literature and reading and as part of our celebrations for World Book Day on Thursday 2 March 2017, we are hosting a number of events.

A Scholastic Book Fair will commence on Thursday 23 February until Thursday 2 March. Pupils will have the opportunity to buy and order books each day at lunchtime during this week. The commission from the Book Fair will fund the acquisition of new books from Scholastic for our Reading Circles and our Library.

Our celebrations will begin with the Year 8 Shared Reading Workshop on Thursday 23 February and our Year 9 Character Day on Thursday 2 March to bring the world of books to life.

Thanks to the generosity of National Book Tokens Ltd, publishers and booksellers, pupils wishing to purchase a book will receive a book voucher. Vouchers can be used to get £1 off any book or audio book costing over £2.99 at a participating bookshop or book club including our Book Fair (terms and conditions apply). Or, it can be brought to a local bookseller and used to pick one of TEN (exclusive, new and completely free) books.

Remember, ‘Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.’ ~Richard Steele, Tatler, 1710 and ‘A good book on your shelf is a friend that turns its back on you and remains a friend.’ ~Author Unknown
