Key Stage 3 | GCSE | AS/A2
Members of Department:
In Technology and Design we aim to stimulate and maintain student interest, enjoyment, curiosity and concern about the technological aspects of their environment. We endeavour to help our pupils develop their creativity and technical ability through a wide selection of tasks. Pupils work both as individuals and in groups during their technology lessons and we actively encourage pupils to support their peers in the class and to fulfil their own potential.
The use of ICT is an integral part of the work our pupils do. One of the packages we use is a CAD (computer aided design) programme which all pupils use to present their work at KS3, GCSE, AS and A2.
Key Stage 3
Key Stage 3 involves pupils in mainly practical orientated work, which cover the study area as determined by the National Curriculum. Pupils experience working with plastics, woods, metals, electronics, mechanisms, control graphic design.
KS3 pupils have 1 Double (1hr 10 min) of Technology per week.

AS and A Level
In Loreto we deliver the Edexcel Design and Technology Product Design- Resistant Materials option.
The aims of this subject are to encourage creativity and innovation with a view to producing high quality products based on knowledge of technological processes and informed design.
Design and Technology is an interdisciplinary subject which is designed to be student focused. Students should have a broad academic background and have both creative and practical skills. The development of these skills will depend heavily on independent learning and the use of Key Skills. Involvement in exhibitions etc. and participation in competitions will be encouraged.
Students follow a modular approach, split over the two years of study.
