'Every individual has a potential that is greater than what is realised, art should provide the impetus for constructive action and the opportunity for each individual to see herself as an acceptable being, searching for new and more harmonious organisations, developing confidence in her own means of expression. The most essential ingredient in an art programme is the child, and art education has a vital role to play in her growth.' Victor Lowenfeld (Creative and Mental Growth, page 346) |

Year 8 Textile Workshop
On Thursday 2nd October, the Art and Design Department at Loreto Grammar School, hosted a Textile Workshop for Year 8 pupils, as part of their Creative Textiles Unit. The workshop, led by Textile Artist, Aine McConnon, informed pupils about her work and taught them various embroidery skills, to inspire their own artwork.
Áine gave a talk about her recent graduate exhibition, 'Delightful Madness' explaining how her felt wall hangings are inspired by happy childhood memories. Her work is bright, fun and playful containing a combination of text, moveable pieces, soft fabrics and bold and decorative hand stitches.
Áine showed pupils examples of her work and gave a demonstration of different embroidery techniques. The workshop was thoroughly enjoyed by all and has given the pupils great inspiration for their own class wall hangings.
