Post 16 - AS and A LEVELS:
We are working towards the requirements of the implementation of the new Entitlement Curriculum which will be in place for 2009.
Most Post 16 subjects follow CCEA Syllabi. In the following subjects the AS AQA syllabi are studied: Biology, Business Studies, Health & Social Care, Media Studies and Sociology. The Edexcel syllabi are followed by students in Physical Education & Technology & Design.
The curriculum at Post-16 encourages breadth of study and is known as Curriculum 2000. The Post-16 programme comprises A Levels, AS Levels and Key Skills and is complemented by a wide, challenging Enrichment Programme.

Enjoy Learning at Loreto
For all prospective Post 16 students, Loreto Grammar School Omagh offers a welcoming, skilled, educational environment where students are supported in their decisions about their futures. Making career choices is a huge challenge for students at this stage as they determine their futures. The general ethos in Loreto Grammar School ensures that the students have the confidence to believe that no matter what they can succeed. Principal Mrs Grainne O’Hanlon states that the students are encouraged to feel that they can be part of anything, anywhere because they have something significant to offer – their skills, their knowledge, their beliefs and their desire to contribute honestly to society. In Loreto the students are encouraged to vision what they want and work hard to achieve it. At post 16, study is only one part of the success equation; Personal growth, social skills, imagination, diligence to the task, enjoying the focus on a future career is also necessary. “We always aim to build personal character alongside an academic and skills profile. Loreto’s emphasis on the quality of relationships within and beyond the school, the involvement of parents in decision making, the development of young people to have the confidence in their ability and the courage to make wise decisions, is now widely acknowledged. Our faith based, holistic, person centred education has stood the test of time. We prepare students from all cultures and faith backgrounds to take on this exciting and challenging world that awaits them if they choose their post 16 pathway with us.”
Much work has gone into developing the Post 16 curriculum, the strength of the Careers guidance, the excellent pastoral care provision and faith development programmes. New students to the Post 16 programme in Loreto Grammar School Omagh enjoy not only the wide range of subject courses but also the wealth of extra curricular initiatives.
